Road trips aren't just about getting from one point to the other. They're also about traveling, exploring, and the opportunity of spending quality time with family and friends. But since all road trips can have one or two boring moments,
it's helpful to keep in mind some of the road-trip games that can help you to stay entertained. These are our favorite recommendations:
On-the-road Trivial Pursuit
Trivial Pursuit is a popular questions-and-answers board game, but one that's not very handy to play in the car. However, do you truly need Trivial Pursuit to come up with a fun trivia game? Using your own general cultural knowledge, you can create interesting trivia questions on the spot to challenge your family and friends.
The best part is that you can adapt the questions to the people you're playing with. If your children are answering, try to explore the topics they're most familiar with. If you're playing against your friends, just go with the things you know they will never guess!
The portraits game
To play this fun road trip game, you need to give everyone in the car—aside from the driver—a notebook and a pencil. The goal of the game is to receive the notebook of the person sitting next to you and paint a portrait of his or her face. In the end, the notebooks are given back to their original owners, who'll then have a cool portrait of themselves.
A perfect game for an artsy family, the portraits game can also give way to a lot of laughs, especially if someone's very good (or very bad) at drawing cartoon versions of their family and friends.
I spy with my little eye…
It's a road-trip classic, but one that's still a lot of fun to play. In case you've never heard of the 'I spy with my little eye' game, it goes like this: one person identifies an object or animal that can be seen by everyone and gives away clues. The goal of the other players is to guess what the object is as quickly as possible. The first player to make a correct guess gets the opportunity to play as the spy.
Create a person on the spot
If you're a fan of Sherlock Holmes, you'll love this game. A fun activity for children and grown-ups alike, it is about spotting a stranger on the street and trying to come up with his fictional biography. You should use the little information you have on the stranger (such as his/her clothes or mood) in one way or another, but you can get as creative as you want.
